On the career start:

I worked as a clerk in a small and cheap clothing store. And then did not want to be a designer. And now I say to all who come to me for advice: " if Do you want to create real clothes - do some work in retail, to see what real people  wear."

About  the unfinished higher education:

I studied at the Parsons School of Design named after, but did not finish it - "flunked" drapery. Yes, and you do not know? But then I showed them all!

The principal professional advice:

When I got hired a team of Anne Klein, she thought I was - an aspiring model. And she began to criticize my "hips are too wide." I am so offended then! But then Anna became my mentor and taught me the main thing: never forget you - the artist, even to design toothbrushes and hospital gowns.

About the acquaintance with the idol:


I have worked for some time in the fashion business - assistant came to me and said, "For you have an order, but do not be mad." It turned out the customer was Barbara Streisand, my absolute idol -  and wanted to sing like her. I almost fainted when I first saw it "live"!

On a personal "change team":

I was going to marry Mark [Mark Karan, Donna's first husband], my childhood friend, whom we met before the engagement ages - from 16 years of age. And at a party on the occasion of the betrothal the first time I saw Steven [Stephen Weiss, second husband of Donna] - do not know who brought him, but he was a bohemian, regrown hair gathered in a ponytail, a rough sweater, friends said, "sculptor" ... And I realized that the "hit". I thought about it constantly, but in the end "talk yourself" from this crazy love - after all, he was ten years older, and next to me was a man whom I trusted.

It will be recalled that the first husband and father of their common daughter Gaby Miss Curran is still divorced in 1978 - and went for the "inaccessible" Weiss, with whom lived in love and harmony until 2001 - until the tragic death of the sculptor-for lung cancer.
